It is easy to learn how to use the backend system of your blog. When your application is approved, the administrator sends you a username and password for your blog. You need this information when you login to publish new content or manage your blog.
Besides publishing new content, you must learn how to manage the old one - delete or change (re-edit) posts and pages, etc. The difference between a post and a page, is that posts appear chronologically and are categorised, while pages are a unit on itself, offering usually some ‘technical’ content, e. g. “about” (info about the blog), “contact” (a form to let someone send you a letter), etc.
First thing you should do is to change some basic settings. Change the “About” page, where you are supposed to speak about yourself and/or your blog. You can delete the page if you don’t want to include this info at all. Whatever you decide, you can do by going to the “Manage” section and then to “Pages“. There you can delete or edit the “About” page.
Then go to “Settings” > “General” and change the ’subtitle’ of your blog; where it now says by default “A Byzantine Walls weblog” you can have it say “A Blog with personal poetry”, “A History Blog”, “Works by Your-Name” - whatever you like.
Go to “Manage” > “Categories” in order to define some sort of general table of contents for your blog. E.g. you can change the currently default category (which is “uncategorized”) to the main subject of your blog (”poetry” or “history” or “philosophy”, etc), add a new category named “Articles”, or “Notes”, or whatever you need.
Then go to the “Design” menu, where you can change the looks and feel of your blog by applying a different theme than the default one. You can also suggest a new theme to be installed just for you. New themes you can find at Wordpress, and elsewhere.
The “Design” > “Widgets” subsection will let you choose some information to display automatically in all of your blog’s pages, such as Recent Posts, your Blogroll (collection of links to interesting web pages), a search engine, etc.
These are the basic settings; there are more you can discover by yourself. If you don’t understand what something means, or if you need to do something but you don’t know how, just send an email to Byzantine Walls »
